Who I Am

christine bonoan

Hi! My name is Christine, and I like understanding how things break. Not in a destructive way, more that I've always been drawn to edge cases, failure modes, and the parts of a system nobody thinks to test. That instinct is what drew me to embedded and test engineering. There's something meaningful about working on systems where the stakes are real, where software isn't just logic on a screen, but something that has to hold up in the world.

Outside of that, I'm usually doing something with my hands or my head. I snowboard when I can, build and create when I'm home, read when I need to slow down, and dive into music when I need something that gives me an answer. I think that mix of physical, creative, and analytical spaces shapes how I approach problems more than any class I've taken.

I care about building things that actually work, and I've learned that figuring out why something doesn't is often more interesting.

Background

I recently graduated from CSU Bakersfield with a Computer Science degree. However, this path wasn't linear. I started at UC Irvine studying Criminology and graduated in 2022. Life had other plans, and although doors felt like they were closing in ways I didn't see coming, others opened. It was a hard reset, but it pointed me in this direction.

My path through CS has been shaped by both lectures and moments where something just clicked, like the first time I got a Raspberry Pi. Even though it was for a class project, I further stumbled into electronics and realized how much I didn't know but wanted to continue learning. Building a smart lighting system and feeling that satisfaction from code controlling something physical piqued my interest in ways I didn't expect. CS is fundamentally a software discipline, but those experiences kept pulling me toward the hardware side of things, toward systems that don't just run, but interact with the world.

Those experiences pointed me to the edge where software meets hardware. I've spent time since then chasing that feeling that hands-on work and creating things that exist outside a screen bring.

Currently

Recently graduated and on the hunt for roles in test engineering and embedded systems. In the meantime, I'm currently employed at CSE Medical Transport as a Billing/Administrative Clerk and have been at this position since 2019. While I'm searching, I've been keeping busy by self-studying engineering material to fill the gaps a CS degree doesn't always cover. I'm also building projects on the side to put that knowledge to use.

Always open to connecting, so feel free to reach out!
